On July 1, 2018, Dr. Irma Becerra, Ph.D. became the seventh president of Marymount University. Dr. Becerra is a nationally recognized educator known for innovation, entrepreneurship and transformational education. She has over 30 years of experience in higher education, starting as a tenured professor, leading an entrepreneurship center and working as vice provost and vice president for engagement at Florida International University (FIU). She became the first woman to earn a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at FIU. She then served as provost at Saint Thomas University, where she also became the chief academic officer. Her academic career as a student and professional has blended mathematics, engineering and systems thinking and processes in her studies, teaching and administrative leadership.
